Life Changes
Changes in life can bring a lot to adjust to, even when they’re changes you’ve chosen. These are some of the experiences I commonly support clients with in therapy.
Living through change
Some changes we choose. Others happen to us before we’re ready.
You might be starting a new job, facing redundancy, moving home, beginning or ending a relationship, retiring, or entering a stage of life you never expected. Even changes you’ve chosen can feel overwhelming when so much of what was familiar suddenly looks different.
You might find it difficult to think clearly, make decisions or know how you’re going to get through it. When so much is changing at once, it can be hard to find something that still feels steady.
Being in the in-between
Sometimes one chapter has ended, but the next hasn’t quite begun.
You might know that things can’t go back to how they were, without knowing what you want instead. It can feel as though life has paused while everyone else carries on, leaving you somewhere in-between what was and whatever comes next.
There can be pressure to make a decision, move forwards or have everything figured out, when the truth is you just don’t know yet.
Starting again
Starting again can feel exciting — but it doesn’t always feel like a fresh start.
Maybe a relationship has ended, you’ve changed careers, moved somewhere new or decided to take your life in a different direction. There can be excitement and possibility in imagining what comes next.
But sometimes starting again happens piece by piece. Day by day. You might feel as though you’re back at the beginning, slowly putting your life back together without knowing where it will lead.
